Workout Duration Calculator
Estimate session length from exercises, sets, reps, rest, warm-up, and equipment changes, then compare it with your available time.
Workout duration estimate
Include general warm-up, warm-up sets, and their rests in warm-up time. Between-exercise time includes recovery, changing equipment, and walking. For single-leg or single-arm work, include both sides in your average reps.
Estimated session length
50 minutes
- Lifting
- 7.5 min
- Rest between sets
- 20.0 min
- Between exercises
- 12.0 min
- Warm-up
- 10.0 min
At this pace, 4 of your 5 exercises fit in 45 minutes. Prioritize the work that matters most, or allow more time.
A planning estimate using equal sets and average reps for each exercise. Equipment queues and longer recovery can extend it; shortening rest may affect your next set.
How this tool works
Total minutes = exercises × sets × reps × seconds per rep ÷ 60, plus exercises × (sets − 1) × rest seconds ÷ 60, plus (exercises − 1) × minutes between exercises, plus warm-up minutes. There is no rest after the final set of an exercise because the transition allowance covers that interval. The time-budget result counts complete exercise blocks under the same assumptions.
Worked example
Five exercises with three sets of ten reps at three seconds per rep use 7.5 minutes lifting. Two-minute rests add 20 minutes, four three-minute transitions add 12, and warm-up adds 10: 49.5 minutes total, displayed as 50 minutes. Four complete exercises fit a 45-minute budget at this pace.
When to use this tool
- Checking whether a session fits a lunch break
- Accounting for rest instead of counting lifting time alone
- Comparing a routine with your available training time
How to use the result
Treat the result as a planning estimate. The model uses equal sets and average reps across exercises and does not model supersets. Count both sides for unilateral movements. Include recovery and setup between exercises in the transition allowance; queues, fatigue, and unexpected interruptions can extend your session.
Training notes
- Include all warm-up sets and their rests in the warm-up allowance.
- Keep enough rest to support your training goal rather than cutting it just to fit a timer.
- Prioritize the most relevant exercises when your full plan does not fit.
How to use workout duration calculator
- 1
Describe your session
Enter the exercise count, working sets, average reps, and seconds per rep.
- 2
Include the time between sets
Add rest, all warm-up time, and time between exercises.
- 3
Compare with your budget
Review the breakdown and how many complete exercises fit; copy or print your estimate.
